We believe that sometimes we need a jumpstart for the weight loss journey. Medically directed programs are often exactly what is indicated.
June 4, 2021, the FDA approved semaglutide injection for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol), for use in addition to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Semaglutide is indicated for chronic weight management in patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 27 kg/m2 or greater who have at least one weight-related ailment or in patients with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater.
Semaglutide is a Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 is a hormone found naturally in the body that participates in the insulin/glucose balance.
Natural GLP-1 is very short acting and thus synthetic formulations have developed for clinical use. It's primary effects are to stimulate glucose dependent insulin release which reduces glucose in the bloodstream, facilitates glucose removal, suppressed appetite and slows the digestive tract.
The end result of this is a beneficial balancing of glucose and the insulin hormone
